Laughter Yoga clubs starts in Huddersfield
A laughter yoga club has started in Longwood near Huddersfield, West Yorkshire to help people banish their winter blues. The club is run by hypnotherapist Debbie Taylor-Payne. Debbie – a certified laughter yoga leader – hopes that the club will raise awareness of how laughter can reduce stress.
Laughter yoga is a unique concept where anyone can laugh for any reason. In the group laughter is initiated as an exercise, but with eye contact and childlike playfulness it soon turns into real laughter. The concept is so-called because it combines laughter exercises with yoga breathing. This brings more oxygen to the body and brain which makes participants feel more energetic and healthy.
Laughter yoga was started by Dr Madan Kataria in a Mumbai park in 1995. The craze is fast sweeping the world, with thousands of laughter clubs now being run in over 70 countries.
Debbie said: “At this time of year people may be thinking of hibernating for the winter.
“I would like to encourage them to attend my laughter club and beat those winter blues.”
